Drakloak is a Dragon/Ghost Pokemon that was introduced along with the Galar Region (Generation VIII). It is the evolved form of Dreepy and the pre-evolution of Dragapult. It is capable of going at incredibly high speeds. If you ever plan on starting a race with Drakloak at a red light, don’t even think about it because it can go from 0 to 120 mph within seconds.

Appearance

Drakloak is based on a Diplocaulus, an extinct amphibian along with a fighter jet and is primarily light blue in colour. It’s head is relatively flat like that of a lizard with two jet wings extending from both sides. The top part of its head is entirely black with two red triangular shapes on either side with sharp yellow eyes above its wide mouth.

The rest of the body is a long oval shape with a tail on the back, all light blue. A long yellow mark is seen on its belly along with a red boomerang-like shape in the middle of it. Drakloak has two arms and legs, both extending from the front. The legs are especially short as this Pokemon does not use it for walking but rather it floats around. Just before the edge of its tail is a darker shaded translucent mark and a Dreepy can be seen on top of its head as well.

Behavior

Capturing a Drakloak is like capturing two Pokemon at once as it needs a Dreepy to take care of at all times. It battles alongside it, takes care of it and even spoils it till it evolves. Without a Dreepy, Drakloak gets uncomfortable to such an extent that if it doesn’t get a Dreepy, it just substitutes it with any Pokemon that it sees. Apart from being incredibly motherly, it is also famous for being incredibly fast. A Drakloak can zoom past you at over 120 mph with ease.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Drakloak is a Dragon/Ghost type, which makes it a very special Pokemon. It is weak to Ghost, Ice, Dragon, Dark and Fairy type moves. On the other hand, it is resistant to Poison, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass and Electric type moves. Not only that, it is immune to Normal and Fighting type moves.

Best moveset

Drakloak can be incredibly resourceful in NFE because of its incredible movepool as well as decent offensive abilities. To use this team effectively, use Will-O-Wisp to not only halve the opponent’s attack, but also to burn them. Then use Hex to deal twice as much damage along with STAB. Draco Meteor is a one time nuke since it reduces Special Attack. Use U-turn immediately after to reset this loss.

Trivia

  2. Drakloak and its family line are the only Dragon types in the Amorphous Egg Group.
  3. Drakloak holds resemblance to a fighter jet, especially since it’s evolution uses Dreepy as homing missiles.

Conclusion

Drakloak are caring Pokemon that take care of Dreepy and travel with it. It can not only be caring, but also incredibly powerful and fast. This is reflected in this Pokemon competitively as well. While not being the fastest Pokemon out there, the speed stat is pretty decent for an NFE Pokemon. It has an incredible movepool along with decent stats, making it one of the top choices of this format. If you’re doing a casual playthrough, although it takes time to care for this Pokemon, it comes incredibly resourceful in terms of power. Evolving it into a Dragapult brings this Pokemon from an A tier to an SS tier Pokemon.
