Appearance

Jellicent has two different appearances depending on whether it is male or female. A male Jellicent will have flat appendages and it is mostly blue and white around its body with a kingly appearance. A female Jellicent, on the other hand, is pink and has more wavy appendages with a queenly appearance. The male Jellicent appears to be more angry and the female Jellicent has a smile on its face all the time. Regardless of their gender, they will always have a crown shaped ornament on top of their head and it is at a massive height for a Pokemon at 7 feet and 3 inches, or 2.2 meters, tall.

Behavior

Jellicent inhabits the deep waters of the ocean. It will absorb seawater into its body to make it seem larger and use it as a projectile against foes. Like jellyfish in real life, Jellicent can be seen gathered in groups before and after a full moon. They also seem to possess incredible power, a ship that wanders into Jellicent’s habitat will never be seen again. It is a highly feared Pokemon as it is known to feed on life energy.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Jellicent has a powerful special defense as well as a good health pool to accompany it. Its fairly defensive typing also makes it a strong defensive Pokemon. With a respectable special attack it can be a menacing Pokemon to encounter. Jellicent is a slow Pokemon so try to play around its turn order. As a dual type water and ghost Pokemon, Jellicent takes 2x damage from ghost, grass, electric, and dark type moves. It is immune to normal and fighting type moves, and is also resistant against poison, bug, steel, fire, water, and ice type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, when rain weather effects were common to see, Jellicent was one of the strongest Pokemon available. With the water absorb ability, Leftovers as a held item, and rain boosted water type moves, it seemed to have no weakness. With this competitive environment, Jellicent was the premier defensive Pokemon. It commonly used Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, Scald/Night Shade/Shadow Ball, and Recover. Will-O-Wisp ensured your opponents dealt less damage, Taunt prevented supportive strategies while you could choose between Scald/Night Shade/Shadow Ball as your offensive STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) move. And finally, it could still self-sustain itself through Recover.

How to Catch Jellicent in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Jellicent in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Frillish and eventually evolve it into Jellicent. Like most final evolutions, its base evolution is a more common spawn to encounter in the wild. Unfortunately, Frillish is only available for capture in the wild as it cannot be hatched from eggs and has not appeared as a raid boss in the past. You can find Frillish spawning in the wild at a boosted rate near canals, docks, harbors, oceans, rivers, lakes, and other watery areas. To evolve Frillish into Jellicent you will need 50 candies.

Trivia

  1. A Jellicent that is sent to the Global Link will always appear to be a male Jellicent regardless of their gender.
  2. The inspiration for Jellicent’s design is likely inspired by the Nurarihyon, a jellyfish demon in Japanese legend.
  3. The name Jellicent is a combination of the words jellyfish and magnificent.

FAQ

Is Jellicent a good Pokemon?

While it seems to have fallen from competitive viability, it was once a premier Pokemon in competitive play. Today it still remains a powerful defensive Pokemon, it just does not have a common way of setting up the rain weather effect. Jellicent can still deal and take a lot of damage, it just has to do it slowly.

How does Jellicent evolve?

Jellicent is the final evolution in its two stage evolution line and it evolves from Frillish once it reaches level 40. There are no special conditions to fulfill for this evolution line and it will begin to evolve once it reaches the level threshold. Once it does, you just need to let the evolution animation play without pressing the “B” button.

Is Jellicent a rare Pokemon?

Jellicent is only as rare as Frillish tends to be. Throughout the generations where Frillish was available, it appeared on many different routes, had a high chance for encounter, and could even be guaranteed in certain areas. There is not much about Jellicent that makes it an exclusive Pokemon.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Floating Pokemon”. While Jellicent is not the most impactful Pokemon in the competitive environment anymore, it had a brief moment where it was one of the strongest Pokemon in the franchise. In combination with a rain-based team, Jellicent was capable of outlasting an entire team of Pokemon. Reserve a slot on your team for Jellicent to have a defensive water and ghost type Pokemon.
