Mareep Appearance

Mareep is an ovine Pokémon with a curly tuft of wool in the center of its head and a fluffy cream-colored fleece covering its entire body. It has a blue head with black eyes and four blue feet, each with two fingers, and it looks to walk on tiptoes at all times. Mareep has a yellow-and-black striped pattern on its conical ears and tail. At the end of Mareep's tail is an orange spherical that functions as a tiny light bulb. The more energy this sphere contains, the brighter it shines.

Behavior

Mareep's wool stores electricity as it develops, rubbing together and accumulating a static charge. When it is charged with electricity, it expands in volume and a static shock will occur if you touch the wool in this state. The fleece is shed in the summer but it grows back after a week. Its fur also stores air, allowing it to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It prefers to stay out of fights in the wild and has a calm demeanor with it most commonly seen in grassy meadows but they may also be found on farms.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Since Mareep is an Electric-type Pokemon, it is resistant against Flying, Steel and Electric-type moves and only takes half the normal damage from each move. In contrast, Mareep is weak against Ground-type moves taking double the normal damage.

Best Moveset

Thunder ShockThunder Bolt
Discharge Tackle

Thunder Shock is an Electric-type Quick move that deals 5 damage and generates 8 energy. That coupled with Thunderbolt which is yet another Electric-type move, but it is a Main move that deals 80 damage and costs 50 energy. Tackle is a Normal-type Quick move that deals 5 damage and generates 5 energy which means that it isn’t as effective as Thunder Shock but can generate a decent amount of energy. Lastly, Discharge is an Electric-type Main move that deals 65 damage and costs 33 energy.

How to catch Mareep in Pokémon Go?

You can find and catch it in spawn locations like universities, Industrial Parks, and Commercial Shopping Districts and can be hatched from 10 KM Eggs.

There’s a 50% chance of Mareep being a male or Female.

Is Mareep rare in Pokemon Go?

Conclusion

Congratulations! You now know everything about this sheep-based Pokemon. There is little confusion as to why this Pokemon is an electric type but given that its wool stores charges that are based on the static electricity in real life. Mareep is certainly not the best Pokemon out there, but it can be effective scenarios with a plausible base stat value.
