John McEnroe, an American tennis player, was born on February 16, 1959. After retiring from professional tennis in 1992, McEnroe remained involved in the sport as a commentator and pundit. Additionally, he also ventured into successful commercial endeavours.

McEnroe held the world No. 1 ranking in singles from 1981 to 1984. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles in his career, including three Wimbledons and four US Opens.

McEnroe's exceptional tennis abilities extended well beyond the Grand Slam stage. He amassed a notable total prize money of $12,552,132. His distinct style of play, characterised by exceptional shot-making and volleying abilities, clearly distinguished him as one of the best ever.

Notably, McEnroe's career stands out with an impressive 77 ATP Tour singles championships. This feat ranks him among the select handful in tennis history. Equally notable is his success in doubles, where he won another 77 trophies, making him the only male player to win more than 70 titles in both men's singles and doubles in the Open Era.

John McEnroe steroids use (2004)

In an interview with the London Daily Telegraph in January 2004, John McEnroe revealed that he had unintentionally taken steroids during his playing career. According to McEnroe, his doctor had prescribed steroids to aid in his recovery from injuries. It was only years later that McEnroe discovered the true nature of the drug he had been taking. He had unknowingly been using a form of steroid.

At the time when drug use in professional tennis faced increased scrutiny, McEnroe made an admission. It coincided with former world No. 1 Andre Agassi's confession in 2003 of using crystal meth during his career.

John McEnroe Covid-19 positive

In September 2023, tennis legend McEnroe faced an unfortunate circumstance. He was unable to participate in the first two days of the US Open coverage on ESPN. The reason behind his absence was that McEnroe had tested positive for Covid-19. In a statement released by the network on Tuesday, he disclosed, "Unfortunately, after feeling a bit under the weather, I tested positive for COVID." Consequently, he was confined to watching the US Open from home and eagerly anticipated returning to work in the near future.

It all began back in 1978 when McEnroe emerged as an up-and-coming star while Borg held the title of defending champion at the Wimbledon. Their clash reached its pinnacle during the memorable 1980 Wimbledon final. In this gripping encounter, McEnroe displayed incredible resilience by saving five match points in a tense fourth-set tie-break.
