Gunther and Damian Priest faced each other for the first time at a Premium Live Event during SummerSlam 2024. They met again for their second singles match on pay-per-view at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024. Gunther and Damian Priest met for a third time at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024, competing in a triple threat match also featuring Finn Balor.

SummerSlam 2024 - World Heavyweight Championship Match

Damian Priest won the Men’s Money in the Bank in 2023 and held the briefcase for a long time. At WrestleMania XL Night Two, Priest cashed in his briefcase against Drew McIntyre and became the World Heavyweight Champion. He would go on to defend the title against Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins over the next few months. On the other hand, Gunther won the King of the Ring 2024 tournament and became the number-one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The match between Gunther and Priest was then set up for SummerSlam 2024. Midway through the bout, Priest was joined at ringside by fellow Judgment Day member Finn Bálor, who appeared to support him despite Priest’s earlier insistence that he stay backstage. Despite Gunther's offense, Priest managed to deliver a South of Heaven, nearly securing the victory. However, Bálor interfered, draping Gunther's leg over the rope to break the count. Priest was shocked at Balor’s betrayal and went on to fight him. This distraction allowed Gunther to lock Priest in a chokehold. While Priest set free the first time, Gunther applied another chokehold, forcing the referee to stop the match. Gunther was declared the winner, becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Survivor Series: WarGames 2024

At Survivor Series: WarGames 2024, Gunther put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Damian Priest. The match saw Gunther focus on Damian Priest’s left shoulder after an early injury, targeting it both in and out of the ring. Priest later pushed through and tried using his usual power moves, but the shoulder slowed him down. Gunther countered with a sleeper and a powerbomb for near falls, while Priest answered with a huracanrana and the Razor’s Edge for a close count. Priest tried to finish the match but couldn’t hold the moves. He reached the ropes to break out of a Kimura. Gunther hit a few clotheslines, but Priest came back with one of his own. They went to the top rope, where Gunther knocked Priest down. Finn Balor interfered and hit Priest, but Gunther took him out. Gunther brought Priest back in, landed a powerbomb, elbow strikes, and locked in a submission until the referee stopped the match. As a result, Gunther walked out with the win and retained the World Title.

Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024

Gunther put his World Title on the line, but this was in a triple threat match against Damian Priest and Finn Balor at the Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024. Gunther retained the World Heavyweight Championship in a hard-hitting Triple Threat match against Damian Priest and Finn Balor. With red, white, and blue ropes setting the stage, the action was relentless—Priest landed a Razor’s Edge on Gunther, Balor nearly stole the win with a Coup de Grace, and chaos broke loose as each man traded near falls. In the end, Gunther survived a chokeslam on the steps, dropkicked Balor into the corner, and sealed the win with a thunderous powerbomb to end a wild Saturday Night’s Main Event.
