Gunther is a professional wresler from Austria and was born on August 20, 1987. He is currently under contract with WWE, where he competes on the SmackDown brand as Gunther and currently holds the title of WWE Intercontinental Champion for the first time. He is also Imperium's leader. His real name is Walter Hahn and has wrestled in several independent promotions around the world, most notably Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), where he became a three-time wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), a former one-time PWG World Champion, and Progress Wrestling, where he is a former Progress Unified World Champion.
Walter is the first Austrian wrestler to take part in the WWE and a five-time world champion overall. He made his NXT UK debut after signing a contract with WWE in early 2019, and he later won the title once; his 870-day reign is the record for the title. His ring name was changed to Gunther after he transferred to the main NXT brand in January 2022. In April of the same year, he was promoted to the SmackDown main roster.

On January 12, 2019, at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, Gunther made his WWE debut for the NXT UK brand when he faced off against WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne following Dunne's successful title defense. On the NXT UK show starting on January 30th, Walter made his WWE in-ring debut against Jack Starz. He defeated Starz in less than four minutes. On April 8, the SmackDown program featured the main roster debuts of Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser. Joe Alonzo was defeated by Gunther in under three minutes. Gunther defeated Ricochet on the June 10 SmackDown episode to become the first Austrian to win the Intercontinental Championship. In a rematch, he would triumph over Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura to successfully reclaim the championship.
