Kamaru Usman has been a prominent fighter in the UFC’s welterweight division for nearly a decade since his UFC debut. And over the years, Usman won the welterweight championship and made five successful title defenses during his reign. Starting his professional mixed martial arts career in 2012, the former welterweight champion has a record of 20 wins and four losses as of June 4, 2025. He has nine wins via knockout, one via submission, and three first-round knockout wins to his fight resume.

Considered one of the greatest welterweights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Usman was on a nineteen-fight win streak, including six title matches, till he faced Leon Edwards at UFC 278. Before Edwards, the 38-year-old had only lost to a fighter called Jose Caseres in 2013 at a promotion named Championship Fighting Alliance. Failing to recapture his welterweight title from Edwards in a rematch at UFC 286, Usman went up a weight class and fought Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. He accepted the fight eleven days before the event on a short notice and lost to Chimaev after a closely fought battle by a majority decision.
