In the 2021 playoffs, he scored the overtime goal that sent Montreal to the Stanley Cup Finals.

On March 21, 2022, Lehkonen was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He scored 6 goals and 3 assists in 16 regular-season games, setting career highs with 19 goals and 38 points overall. In the 2022 playoffs, Lehkonen scored the overtime goal that sent Colorado to the Stanley Cup Finals. He then scored the Cup-winning goal in Game 6, helping the Avalanche capture the Stanley Cup.
