
Darnell Nurse is a Canadian defenceman and alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers. He was drafted 7th overall by the Oilers in 2013. Earlier, he was picked 3rd overall by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the 2011 OHL Draft. He signed his entry-level NHL contract in July 2013 and returned to the Greyhounds as captain in 2013–14, scoring 50 points.
Nurse became a full-time NHL player in 2015–16 after a call-up from the AHL. He played all 82 games in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. He represented Canada at the 2018 and 2019 IIHF World Championships. On October 1, 2019, he became an alternate captain for Edmonton. Kulak signed a two-year extension on February 10, 2020. That season, he was second on the team with 129 hits and 101 blocked shots and averaged over 22 minutes per game.
