Mathew Dumba is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Dallas Stars in the NHL as of 2024. Born July 25, 1994, Dumba was selected seventh overall by the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, where he spent his first ten seasons. Before entering the NHL, Dumba played junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels and the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Dumba learned to skate at three and later moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he played minor hockey with the Crowchild Minor Hockey Association. Dumba's junior career began when the Red Deer Rebels selected him in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

Matt Dumba has played for several teams in the NHL including Minnesota Wilds, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and now with the Dallas Stars. He started with the Minnesota Wild, where he had significant achievements.

Minnesota Wild

He made his NHL debut with the Wild on October 5, 2013, and became the second player of Filipino descent to play in the league. Dumba had a standout season in 2015–16, playing nearly every game and setting personal records with 10 goals, 16 assists, and 26 points. In July 2018, he signed a five-year contract extension worth $30 million with the Wild as per Spotrac.

Arizona Coyotes

After 10 seasons with the Wild, Dumba signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes in August 2023. He debuted with the Coyotes on October 13, 2023, scoring his first goal in a victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Tampa Bay Lightning

In March 2024, Dumba was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where his stint was short-lived.

Dallas Stars

On July 1, 2024, he signed a two-year deal with the Dallas Stars and continues to play for them.
