Professional Swedish tennis player Björn Borg, who was formerly ranked No. 1 by the ATP, was the first person in the Open Era to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles between 1974 and 1981. Borg won six French Open titles and five consecutive Wimbledons.

Borg also won three year-end titles and 16 Grand Prix Super Series championships. He established a number of records that still hold. In addition to being the ATP Player of the Year from 1976 to 1980 and the ATP World No. 1 at the end of the year in 1979 and 1980, he also held the title of ITF World Champion from 1978 to 1980.

Borg is the only Swede to have more than 10 Grand Slams. At the age of 25, Borg abruptly announced his retirement from tennis in 1981. In 1991, he tried to come back but was unsuccessful.

Borg is largely regarded as one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game. According to Tennis Magazine, he was the sixth-greatest male player during the Open Era. His rivalry with John McEnroe has been recognized as one of the greatest in the history of the sport, and their meeting in the 1980 Wimbledon final is considered one of the greatest games ever played.

Borg, a young sensation at the beginning of his career, attained extraordinary stardom and continued success, which fueled tennis' rise to popularity in the 1970s. Borg became the first player to win more than $1 million in prize money in a single season in 1979 as a result of the professional tour becoming more lucrative.

What is the current occupation of Björn Borg?

Currently, Björn Borg is the owner of a successful clothing brand.

Björn Borg’s clothing line has enjoyed great success in Sweden, coming in second only to Calvin Klein. The clothing and fashion company is called Björn Borg AB, but was originally known as World Brand Management (WBM). It has stores in seven different nations in Europe, with Sweden and the Netherlands being its two most significant markets.

Since 1997, WBM has held an exclusive trademark license for the name Björn Borg, granting them the authority to manufacture, distribute, and market Björn Borg products worldwide. At the end of 2006, it paid $18 million to acquire all trademark rights.

After this transaction, WBM rebranded as Björn Borg in 2017. The primary items are under the headings of undergarments, shoes, handbags, glasses and perfumes. The most popular Björn Borg item is undergarments.

Since 2017, Borg has led Team Europe in the Laver Cup. In the upcoming 2023 Laver Cup, he will once again lead Team Europe against Team World at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, from September 22 to September 24.

Team World's captain is John McEnroe, his longtime rival. In fact, their rivalry was so well-known that a biopic, "Borg vs. McEnroe," was released in 2022, featuring interviews of both their rivalry and friendship.

Was Björn Borg the greatest tennis player of all time?

Between 1976 - 1980, Borg set a record by winning five straight Wimbledons, a feat later achieved by Roger Federer. With 11 Grand Slam singles titles, Borg is sixth among male tennis players with the most Grand Slam singles victories, trailing only Pete Sampras (14) and Roy Emerson (12), Rafael Nadal (22), Roger Federer (20) and Novak Djokovic (24).

Borg is the only male who has won the Channel Slam three times. In three different years (1978, 1980, and 1981), Borg competed in the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open finals. Borg never won the US Open, despite appearing in the finals four times.

Borg was already listed among the 21 greatest players of all time by tennis promoter and legendary player Jack Kramer in his 1979 autobiography. Borg was also listed by Bud Collins as one of the best five male athletes of all time in 2003.

Bud Collins, Cliff Drysdale, and Butch Buchholz compiled a list of the best five male tennis players of all time in 1988. Borg was ranked second on the lists of both Buchholz and Drysdale, just after Rod Laver. Behind Laver, McEnroe, Rosewall, and Gonzales, Borg was ranked fifth by Collins.
