Coco Gauff and Donna Vekic

One of the two highly ranked WTA Players, Coco Gauff and Donna Vekic's battle showcases a fascinating clash of contrasting styles. American prodigy Gauff, who described herself as a fighter, is known for her big serve. On the other hand, Vekic is known for her aggressive game, which includes hitting hard off and flat both wings.

Coco Gauff vs Donna Vekic at the Paris Olympics

Coco Gauff's dream of winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics is halted by Donna Vekic in the third round. Vekic upset World No. 3 Gauff by 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 to advance to her maiden quarterfinals. However, the match was masked by an outcall from chair umpire Jaume Campistol, causing Gauff to lose her patience. She was down by 2-3 (30-40) at the end of the second set, which caused the American to not complete her stroke.

This resulted in the ball hitting the net, initiating a dispute between Gauff and the chair umpire. The 20-year-old told the umpire that she called the ball out before she could hit the ball. In return, the chair umpire responded that it did not matter. Later, International Tennis Federation referee Clare Wood came to the court, thus causing Gauff to change the challenge.

Due to Clare Wood's decision, tears rolled down Gauff's face, and she responded she is constantly cheated in court. She further added that she hopes the game will become fair. Down by 5-3 in the first set, Vekic stunned Gauff and turned the match around, winning the first set tiebreak by 9-7. She also received an early break in the second set to stick on the serve. Gauff was unable to maintain composure after this dispute, resulting in her losing the match.
