Miro Heiskanen is a Finnish defenseman and alternate captain for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL). He started his professional career with HIFK in the Liiga in the 2016-17 season and was awarded the Pekka Rautakallio trophy for his contributions as a defenseman in 2018. He was selected third overall by the Stars in the 2017 NHL entry draft and signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Stars on July 8, 2017.

Heiskanen made his NHL debut on October 4, 2018. He scored his first career NHL goal on October 25, 2018, becoming the second-youngest defenseman in franchise history to do so. He made both the NHL All-Star Game and the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2019. He set the Stars' playoffs record for points by a defenseman in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He broke the Stars' record for most points in a season by a defenseman in the 2022-23 season.

From a young age, the Dallas Stars player was passionate about hockey, often waiting by the door with his skates and stick, eager to head to the rink as soon as Juuka returned home from work. Miro, who was born in Espoo, Finland on July 18, 1999, was taught the fundamentals of skating by Juuka. His parents still reside in Finland and have two Chihuahuas, as per The Athletic.

Mia recalls Miro's calm and composed nature, even in big moments, telling The Athletic:

"I remember moments from his youth career, big goals or wins, when Miro would simply smile and nod rather than celebrate like the other kids on his team."
