Born on December 11, 2001, in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Aliyah Boston has played two seasons in the WNBA for the Indiana Fever as of September 2025. At 6 ft 5 in tall, Aliyah Boston is a center who can also play power forward. As soon as she was drafted by the Fever with a first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, she established herself as a starter with the Fever.

Boston became just the eighth rookie in league history to start the WNBA All-Star Game. She also became the first player in WNBA history to lead in field goal percentage (57.8%) as a rookie. Aliyah Boston was unanimously named 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year and earned AP All-Rookie Team honors, averaging 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks.

Aliyah Boston College

As a five-star coming out of high school, Aliyah Boston attended the University of South Carolina and joined the South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball Team, led by head coach Dawn Staley, in 2019. After the departure of A’ja Wilson, who joined the WNBA, the Gamecocks found another gem in Boston who could play as a forward or a center.

The South Carolina forward-center dominated the SEC conference and led South Carolina to three regular-season championships and three conference tournament championships. She was the SEC Rookie of the Year (2020), four-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year (2020-23), two-time SEC Player of the Year (2022 and 2023) and two-time SEC Tournament MVP (2021 and 2023). She was also named on the First-team All-SEC four consecutive times (2020-23) and made the SEC All-Defensive teams four years (2020-23) in a row.

Boston ended her career as one of the best defensive players in the history of South Carolina, ranking first in defensive win shares and defensive box plus/minus. She was first in total rebounds (1493), first in offensive rebounds (518), third in points (1942), second in blocks (330), third in field goals made (762), and fifth in minutes played (3751). She also holds the record for most blocks (10) and most offensive rebounds (12) in a game for the Gamecocks.

In her NCAA career, Boston averaged 14.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in 16 appearances. She won the 2022 National Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Player. She also won the Naismith College Player of the Year (2022) and Naismith Defensive Player of the Year (2022 and 2023) awards. Some more Player of the Year awards won in 2022 include AP PoY, USBWA PoY, Wade Trophy, Honda Sports Award, and Honda-Broderick Cup.

Aliyah Boston set multiple program records for the Gamecocks in her historic four-year tenure at South Carolina. As a freshman, she started 33 games, blocked 86 shots, posted 13 double-doubles, and recorded 10 blocks in a single game, all franchise records for a freshman. She also became the first Gamecock freshman to post a triple-double. In her sophomore season, she became the first Gamecocks player to achieve a triple-double in an SEC game.

During her junior year, she set Gamecocks records for most games played (37), total rebounds (462), offensive rebounds (150), and defensive rebounds (312), and posted the highest number of double-doubles at 30. She also had the most consecutive double-doubles (27) in a single season of Gamecocks history.

Throughout her college career, Aliyah Boston holds the University of South Carolina records for the most career games started (138), career rebounds (1,493), most triple-doubles (2), and career double-doubles (82). Boston also set some NCAA tournament records, including the most career rebounds in the NCAA tournament at 199, as well as the most offensive rebounds, 70 at the NCAA tournament.

Aliyah Boston attended Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, where she was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game. She led the team to a 24-1 record and the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A championship in 2019.
