Goldberg is an American professional wrestler, actor, sports commentator, and retired football player. Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was raised in a Reform Jewish family by his mother, Ethel Goldberg, and his father, Jed Goldberg. His athletic journey began at Thomas Edison Preparatory School, where he showcased his football talent. Following high school, he went on to play college football at the University of Georgia, joining the Georgia Bulldogs as a defensive tackle.
In early December 1992, Goldberg made his NFL debut with the Atlanta Falcons, appearing in a total of 10 games. During this time, he also competed for teams such as the Sacramento Surge and Sacramento Gold Miners. His stint with the Falcons ended in 1994, leading him to join the Carolina Panthers. However, he never played a game for the Panthers, becoming their first player cut following a severe injury that tore his lower abdomen from his pelvis, effectively ending his NFL career. After retiring from football, Goldberg began his professional wrestling career in WCW in June 1997 under the name Bill Gold. He quickly gained recognition by defeating opponents like Buddy Lee Parker, Buddy Landell, Hugh Morrus, and Chip Minton. His success in the ring led him to prominence as he won 173 consecutive matches from 1997 to 1998. Since then, Goldberg has become one of the most respected and iconic figures in wrestling history.
