2018 China Open Tennis

The China Open is a combined tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour of 500 points and Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Premier Mandatory tournament. The hard-court tournament is played every year.

The tournament was started in 2004 before getting upgraded to the current status of ATP and WTA tour in 2009. The 2018 China Open will be the 15th edition of the tournament.

About

In the 2018 edition, the tournament will be played from September 29 to October 7 at the Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing. The tournament will witness 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams in the Men’s category while 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams in the Women’s category. The total prize money of the tournament is $9,206,071.

Defending Champions

In 2017, Rafael Nadal lifted the Men’s singles title beating Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-1 in the final. Henri Kontinen and John Peers defeated John Isner and Jack Sock 6-3,3-6,10-7 in a roller-coaster Men’s doubles final.

In the Women’s singles final, unseeded Caroline Garcia stunned the second seed Simona Halep as the French player defeated Halep 6-4,7-6(3). /Top seed Martina Hingis and Latisha Chan had an easy outing in the Women’s doubles final as the Swiss-Taipei pair defeated Tímea Babos and Andrea Hlaváčková 6-1,6-4.

Favourites

Rafael Nadal announced his participation in the 2018 China Open and he will be the clear favourite to win his third title in Beijing. The Current World No. 3 on the ATP ranking list Alexander Zverev and World No. 4 Juan Martín del Potro will give Nadal a tough competition. Also, Andy Murray will also play in the event.

In the Women’s singles, most of the top-ranked stars are likely to participate in the tournament. Currently ranked one in the World, Simona Halep would be the favourite to win the title if she chooses to contest in the tournament.

Both in the Men’s and the Women’s doubles, the favourite team to life the title can only be decided after the official draw takes place.
