Jon Jones is one of the most talented and successful professional mixed martial artists to compete in the octagon. Having made his professional debut on the professional mixed martial arts scene, Jones dominated the light heavyweight division through the major part of his career. On August 9, 2008, riding on a clean record of six wins and no losses, Jones stepped inside a UFC octagon for the first time at UFC 87 against Andre Gusmao, a fight he won by unanimous decision.

Jon Jones eventually became the light heavyweight champion in the UFC on March 19, 2011, at UFC 128 by defeating Mauricio Rua via a third-round TKO. His career was marred with multiple controversies affecting his career briefly. Jones returned to the octagon from over a three-year layover at UFC 285 in a heavyweight bout against Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC heavyweight championship. Jones won the fight by a second-round submission to become the champion.
