Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. He’s an extremely polarizing personality, and has as many scandals to his name as he does achievements. With a professional record of 26-1, the 33-year-old is a former two time light heavyweight champion. He is currently ranked #1 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

Jones is also the first MMA fighter to have ever signed an international deal with Nike, receiving his own signature sneaker. He’s also the first fighter to represent Gatorade and MuscleTech in the octagon. The youngest ever champion in UFC history with his TKO win over Maurício Rua in 2011, Jones is widely considered to be the best fighter in the world.

Till date, his only loss in the ring was a controversial disqualification against Matt Hamill, a result that both Hamill and UFC President Dana White have disputed. Holding a Black belt in gaidojutsu under Greg Jackson, and a Purple belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, he has been described as “one of the most dynamic, innovative, and constantly evolving fighters in the history of MMA.”

How many tattoos does Jon Jones have? What do they mean?

Jones is a fan of body art and getting inked. He has two tattoos on his body. Here are their meanings:

Philippians Tattoo:

Tattoo: on the right side of his chest is a foot-long tattoo with the words “Philippians 4:13”

Meaning: The tattoo is a reference to line 13 of the 4th verse of the book of philippians in the bible. It says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It was his sister Carmen’s favourite bible verse. He got it in her memory after she passed away in 2000 due to brain cancer. This tattoo was inked by tattoo artist Talina. He also has a daughter named Carmen, who he named after his sister.

Gaidojutsu Tattoo:

Tattoo: on his left rib cage are two symbols in Japanese Kanji inked vertically on top of each other.

Meaning: the two symbols are 㝊, meaning “to guide”, and 術 , which means art or skill, and is the “su'' in jiu jitsu. Put together, they do not have any meaning, but the characters sound like the word Gaidojutsu, which happens to be a martial art created by Greg Jackson, and practiced by Jones.
