American football player Avonte Maddox is a cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles as of February 2025. His footballing career started with little league football while he focused on baseball for the first two years of high school before he decided to play American football. In fact, he almost ended up in MLB following his probable drafting in the league after his senior year in high school. He spent his college years at Pittsburgh and played cornerback for all four years. As a sophomore, he was named Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference and Third-team while he was in his senior year. Maddox was a fourth-round selection and 125th overall by the Eagles at the 2018 NFL Draft. He was a member of the Eagles' Super Bowl LVII roster in 2022. He made his NFL debut against the Atlanta Falcons in 2018 during the season opener.

In the 2020 season, Maddox attended 10 games while recording 40 tackles and three pass deflections as his season was limited following injuries. The following year, which was the last season of his rookie contract, he was the leading player with nine tackles against the Falcons as the Eagles won 32-6. In the 2022 season, Maddox returned as a starter for the Eagles’ primary nickelback. Following a hamstring injury announced that he had suffered a season-ending injury. Maddox recorded seven tackles and helped his side reach the Super Bowl LVII before they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was again placed on injured reserve following an injury in September 2023 before being activated in December. The American footballer was released by the Eagles in March of the 2024 season before he sealed a new deal with them in April of the year.
