Badgley decided to commit to the University of Miami in Florida. He was part of the Miami Hurricanes football team of the University. He started his freshman year in 2014 and made his debut against Arkansas State. In the match, he was able to convert 5 out of 6 PAT attempts. He made his first career goal against Nebraska by hitting a 34-yard kick. During his freshman season, he played 11 games, where he exhibited accuracy in extra points (XPM) with 34 successful attempts out of 38 (XPA), achieving an accuracy rate of 89.5 %. He made an appearance in a total of 13 games, where he continued to provide great support to his team. He achieved a perfect 100% success rate, where his successful attempts were 40.

In 2016, during his Junior year, he assumed the role of the team’s starting kickoff specialist and field goal kicker. He contributed greatly as a kicker by making 21 out of 26 field goal attempts which related to an accuracy rate of 80.8% in field goal percentage.

In his Senior year in 2017, he took the role of Miami’s starting Kicker on kickoffs and field goals. He took part in 13 games, where he showcased an impressive accuracy rate of 97.8% in extra points with successful attempts of 45 out of 46. He also proved himself to be a great kicker by having an accuracy rate of 73.9% in field goals by making 17 successful field goals out of 23 attempts. Badgley contributed to his team's success by accumulating a total of 96 points.

He also managed to accumulate many honors and awards during his college career. In 2017, he was named to the All-ACC First Teams and he was also the semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Award. Badgley was also named Miami’s all-time field goal leader in that season. In 2017, he earned the All-ACC Third Team honors from coaches and an Honorable Mention from ACSMA. During the 2015 season, he bagged the All-ACC Third Team (Coaches) placement and Honorable Mention from ACSMA.

Badgley attended the Summit High School in New Jersey. During that time, he participated in sports such as hockey, lacrosse, and football. He won at least one state Championship title in each sport he played.

He assumed the role of defensive back and running back during his high school career. He was named the varsity team captain. His kicking abilities shone during that time when he recorded his longest field goal of 49 yards, his total kicking points in a season were 84, and his most kicking points in his career then were 202. He played an important role during the N.J. State Football Championship at MetLife Stadium in 2012, where he led his team with a 12-0 win score.
