Casper Ruud: A Brief Biography

Casper Ruud is a Norwegian professional tennis player who achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 2 in September 2022. He is ranked No. 7 by the ATP, as of May 2025. Ruud was born to Christian Ruud and Lele Ruud on December 22, 1998, in Oslo, Norway. His father also played tennis professionally and is his coach. He registered the biggest win of the 2025 season by winning his maiden ATP 1000 title at the Madrid Open. He outplayed Jack Draper in the final 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Ruud advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Barcelona Open, where he was defeated by Holger Rune in straight sets.

Ruud is considered as one of the best clay court players on tour, and has won 13 ATP titles as of May 2025, including 12 on clay. He won the 2024 Barcelona Open, which is the biggest title of his career so far. He is also a three-time Grand Slam finalist (Roland Garros in 2022, 2023, and the US Open in 2022). Casper Ruud was born on December 22, 1998 in Oslo, Norway to Christian Ruud and Lele Ruud. While there is not much information about his mother’s professional life, Christian is a former tennis player and his son’s coach. Ruud began playing tennis at the age of four with his father, in his home club - the Snarøya Tennisclub.

During his junior year, he made it to the semifinals of the 2015 Wimbledon and 2016 French Open in the boys' doubles category with Miomir Kecmanovic. He acquired the No.1 ranking in the junior category on January 4, 2016, thus becoming the first Norwegian player to achieve this feat. He played his maiden ATP Challenger tournament (Copa Sevilla) in September 2016, registering a win over Taro Daniel in the final.

According to Vogue, Ruud's sister Charlotte has pursued a career in tennis who trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy.
