Niko Mikkola is a Finnish defenseman who plays for the Florida Panthers in the NHL. He made his Liiga debut with KalPa in the 2014–15 season. In 2017, he signed a two-year deal with Tappara instead of joining the St. Louis Blues. Mikkola attended the Blues’ 2017 training camp but returned to Tappara after two preseason games. That season, he had 2 goals and 11 points in 50 games and led the league in plus-minus during the playoffs, helping Tappara win silver.
On June 1, 2018, Mikkola signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Blues. He made his NHL debut on January 7, 2020, against the San Jose Sharks. Mikkola played two full seasons with the Blues and signed a one-year extension in 2022. On February 9, 2023, he was traded to the New York Rangers along with Vladimir Tarasenko. On July 1, 2023, he signed a three-year, $7.5 million contract with the Florida Panthers. He was later named to Finland’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off during the 2024–25 season.
