Remarkably, he opted out of his college eligibility and joined the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) to further hone his skills. Ferderic accumulated 8 goals and 10 assists, totalling 18 points in his inaugural full-length NHL season. However, his performance waned during the Stanley Cup playoffs, failing to score any points and being benched for three games as the Bruins succumbed to a seven-game defeat against the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.
