Wayne Gretzky is a big name in the world of ice hockey and due to his incredible records, he is called "The Great One". Gretzky had a solid career in the NHL and has won many prestigious awards multiple times. However, the Stanley Cup victory years were the golden years of his career.

Wayne was just 17 years old when he was signed with the Indianapolis Racer in the World Hockey Association for the 1978-79 season. Despite his age, Gretzky showcased incredible skills in the sport. His career in the WHL hinted that he would be a star player in the NHL. Later, the Indianapolis Racers traded him to the Edmonton Oilers due to financial issues.

Wayne Gretzky's Stanley Cup Victories

Wayne Gretzky’s debut in the National Hockey League was the beginning of his glorious career in ice hockey. Gretzky joined the Edmonton Oilers in 1979. Despite being a young player, he soon became the most dominant player in NHL history.

The Oilers transformed from a struggling franchise to one of the most powerhouse of the NHL, winning four Stanley Cups in 1983-84, 1984-85, 1986-87, and 1987-88. Wayne not only strengthened the Oilers but also popularized the sport among the fans.

In the first Stanley Cup season, Wayne Gretzky collected an impressive score of 35 points in the playoffs, a record that still stands today. Wayne led the Oilers to hold the Stanley Cup Championship and defeated the New York Islanders.

Wayne continued to shine in the 1984-1985 season and scored 47 playoff points, helping the Oilers to win the second consecutive Stanley Cup. In 1986-1987, Wayne again proved himself and played the key role in the Oilers’ Stanley Cup victory, recording 34 points in the playoffs.

His scoring ability and exceptional leadership skills were the key factors for the Oilers' champion. After an incredible tenure with the Oilers, Wayne was traded to Los Angeles in 1988. His achievements with the Angeles continued but unfortunately couldn’t win the Stanley Cups. Gretzky later played with the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. He retired in 1999 and finished his amazing NHL career with 61 NHL records, some of which are still untouched. Wayne’s records are considered to be milestones and one player would have to be consistent to match these milestones.
