The Atlanta Dream has been to three WNBA Finals as of September 2024. They played the finals in 2010, 2011 and 2013. They have a 0-3 record in the finals and lost two back-to-back finals.

Dream’s first final defeat came in 2010 against the Sue Bird led Seattle Storm. They lost the game 3 by 87-84 and the series 3-0. They faced yet another 3-0 sweep in the 2011 Finals against the Minnesota Lynx who were led by Seimone Augustus. After making the finals for the third time in six seasons of being established, Dream faced a familiar opponent in the Minnesota Lynx. They were swept again by the Lynx as they lost their finals with a 3-0 margin.

What teams did the Atlanta Dream lose the WNBA Championship Finals against?

The Atlanta Dream lost their first finals in 2010 when they played against the Seattle Storm. The Dream were led by Angel McCoughtry, Iziane Castro Marques, Erika de Souza and Sancho Lyttle. The series was a close fought battle over three games as Dream scored 245 points and the Storm scored 253 in the series. All three games were decided by three or less points. Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm was named the 2010 WNBA Finals MVP as she averaged 22.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in the series.

Atlanta Dream’s second finals loss came in 2011 when they played against the Minnesota Lynx who were coached by Cheryl Reeves. The Dream’s made multiple changes to their roster and brought two 2007 drafted players into the lineup in Lindsey Harding and the 2007 Rookie of the Year in Armintie Herrington. The Lynx defeated them by 3-0 and won all three games with a six points margin as Seimone Augustus was named the Finals MVP as she averaged 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in the finals.

Atlanta Dream's third finals loss came in 2013 against the Minnesota Lynx. They were swept 3-0 and were blown out in game 1 and 2. The Dream struggled offensively and only scored 199 points in three games in the finals.

Atlanta Dream’s last final appearance (as of 2024) came in 2013 when they faced the arch-rivals in Minnesota Lynx who defeated them in the 2011 Finals. The Lynx were a better side offensively and with a floor general in Lindsay Whalen, the Lynx dominated the series and had 62 assists to only 39 assists by the Dream. .

Angel McCoughtry and Erika de Souza were playing in their third finals for the Dream and put up a strong fight as McCoughtry averaged 15.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while de Souza averaged 10.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in the finals. However, Lynx had five players who averaged double-digit points per game and Rebekkah Brunson put up a solid defensive performance and averaged 10.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in the series.
