In her first season, Dangerfield delivered one of the best rookie seasons by a guard as she averaged 16.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 0.9 steals per game, shooting 47.1% from the field and 33.3% on 4.9 attempts per game from the three-point line. She was named the 2020 WNBA Rookie of the Year and became the only player in history to win the award while being drafted in the second round.

Dangerfield dominated in her high school years and won several Player of the Year awards such as Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year, three-times Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and was also a finalist to Naismith Prep Player of the Year award. After being ranked the best point guard in the class of 2016, Dangerfield was recruited by the UConn Huskies. She averaged 11.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting an efficient 38.5% on 4.7 three-point attempts per game. She is also one of four players in UConn's history to record 550+ assists and score 240+ three-pointers as of September 2024.
