American college football player Laiatu Latu was born on December 31, 2000, and he plays defensive end for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins. Prior to transferring in 2022, he was a player for the Washington Huskies.

In Sacramento, California, Latu was raised and went to Jesuit High School. After finishing his senior season with 94 total tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks, he was selected first-team All-California. Latu, a four-star prospect, turned down offers from USC and UCLA to play collegiate football at Washington.

During his rookie season, he participated in 12 games and recorded 16 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss with the Washington Huskies. Latu's second year began with a neck injury sustained during fall workouts. After the season, Latu's injury had not healed sufficiently, according to the Washington team physicians, and playing football would be too risky for him.

At the beginning of the Huskies' 2021 spring practices, head coach Jimmy Lake declared Latu's retirement. After spending his junior year's first semester at Washington, he used the NCAA transfer site to look for a program where he could finish his college football career.

Latu eventually moved to UCLA, and by the end of the Bruins' spring practices, team physicians gave him the all-clear to play. In Week 4, Latu's three sacks and forced fumble against Colorado earned him the title of Pac-12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
