It is a relatively new event on the circuit, but attracts some of the best players on the women’s tour. Like the name suggests, the tournament happens in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates every year.

The prize money allocated to the tournament stands at $922,573.

Abu Dhabi Open History

The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open originated as the Abu Dhabi Women’s Tennis Open, back in 2021. It has a short history, but has gained prominence on the WTA Tour. The debut edition of the tournament saw reigning 2024 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka lift the singles crown, while the Japanese pairing of Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama won the doubles title.

In 2023, the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open made a return to the circuit, following the suspension of the St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This time, the tournament was sponsored by Mubadala - an investment company that supports the diversification and integration of UAE’s economy. There were great turnouts during the course of the week, as well as some enthralling encounters to match the crowd. The singles tournament was won by Belinda Bencic, while Luisa Stefani and Zhang Shuai won the women’s doubles crown.
