He played for teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and the New York Rangers. His career in the National Hockey League began when he joined the Edmonton Oilers in 1979. “The Great One” made his debut in the NHL when the Edmonton Oilers faced the Chicago Blackhawks.

In his run with the Oilers, Wayne made great strides in his professional career, including four Stanley Cup wins. The first one was in 1984 when the Oilers defeated the New York Islanders. The second Stanley Cup victory came when the Oilers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers; Wayne Gretzky was the MVP of this match. The other two Stanley Cup victories came in 1987 and 1988, during which Wayne Gretzky was once again the MVP of the Stanley Cup 1988.
