He participated in Bantam and Minor midget hockey with the Greater Kingston Predators during the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons.

Hall's professional career in the National Hockey League began when he joined the Edmonton Oilers in 2010 and signed his first professional contract, which paid Taylor the maximum entry level of $900,000. Hall made his official debut during the 2010–11 season with the Edmonton Oilers against the Calgary Flames. Taylor was traded to the New Jersey Devils in June 2016. Taylor became the first player in the team's history to win the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player in his second season with the Devils. He also led the Devils to the Stanley Cup Final in that season. He is playing for the Chicago Blackhawks as of 2024.
