The Stanley Cup is the most prestigious trophy in professional hockey, awarded yearly to the NHL team that wins the playoffs. Every year, 16 teams qualify for the playoffs based on their regular season rankings, and they fight till the Stanley Cup Finals. Canada has been a strong force regarding playoffs and Stanley Cup victories for decades, whether Canadiens players, coaches, or the team captains. Canadien player Jean Béliveau was the only individual in the NHl history to win 17 Stanley Cups, 10 as a player and seven as an executive. Other star Canadiens players like Maurice Richard, who became the only NHL player to score 50 goals in 50 games. Former player Canadien Wayne Gretzky has achieved various milestones in his playing career, such as youngest player to score 50 goals in a season, which is unmatched till now. Henri Richard, who played his entire career with the Canadiens, won 11 Stanley Cups with the team.

Country with the most Stanley Cup wins

The Canadian team Montreal Canadiens, has the most Stanley Cups in history with 23 victories out of 33 appearances. The Toronto Maple Leafs are another Canadian team that has achieved 13 victories out of 21 appearances. These two teams are the oldest in the NHL, having won the title before NHL expansion.

The Detroit Red Wings are the only American team with the most Stanley Cup victories, 11 times, followed by the Boston Bruins (6) and, Chicago Blackhawks (6). Overall, Canada has dominated the NHL for ages.
