The Los Angeles Kings were established in 1967 as an expansion team. Notably, Jack Kent Cooke was the first owner of the franchise and he was the one who built the iconic Forum. Around the same time, the Kings were criticised for their poor management and suffered from poor attendance. However, a revival in the 1970s and 1980s saw them make multiple playoff appearances. This period was followed by financial woes and multiple ownership changes which led to two Stanley Cup victories in 2012 and 2014.

The 2023-24 season marked the 57th year of the team. Moreover, they finished the regular season with a record of 44 wins, 27 losses, and 11 overtime losses. Furthermore, they ranked third in the Pacific Division in the playoff series.
