Matt Duchene is a professional ice hockey center who plays for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL) after a successful career with the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Nashville Predators.

As an 18-year-old rookie in the 2009-10 season, he led all rookies with 55 points, helping the Avalanche make the playoffs. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished third in Calder Trophy voting. Moreover, Duchene became the youngest player in Avalanche history to reach 100 career points and leading the team in scoring in the 2010-11 season. After playing with the Avalanche until 2017, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators and later to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Duchene signed with the Nashville Predators in 2019 and surpassed 700 NHL points in 2022. Furthermore, in 2023, the Predators bought out his contract, and he signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars.

In 2010, after his rookie NHL season, Duchene joined Canada's senior team for the IIHF World Championship in Germany, recording seven points in seven games. He played again in the 2011 World Championship but went scoreless. Duchene was also part of Canada’s 2014 Winter Olympics team in Sochi, contributing to their gold medal win after stepping in following John Tavares' injury. During his junior career with the Battalion, Duchene scored 30 goals and 50 points in his rookie season (2007-08) and improved to 79 points the following season. He helped lead the team to the J.
