Michael Barry Sullivan is a well-known figure in the world of ice hockey. Born on February 27, 1968, he is a former player and current head coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL). His journey in the NHL began when he was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. Throughout his playing career, he represented the New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Phoenix Coyotes.

Sullivan announced his retirement in 2002 and transitioned to coaching. He was hired by the Boston Bruins to serve as their head coach for two seasons before having stints with the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, and Vancouver Canucks, primarily as an assistant head. Moreover, Sullivan has also contributed to player development while with the Chicago Blackhawks.

In December 2015, Sullivan took over as head coach for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL. Under his leadership, the team claimed multiple Stanley Cups, making him the only American-born coach to win the Stanley Cup more than once.
