The Minnesota Wild is a professional ice hockey team in the NHL. They are based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, competing in the Western Conference. They play home games at the Xcel Energy Center and are owned by Craig Leipold. The Wild are affiliated with the Iowa Wild (AHL) and Iowa Heartlanders (ECHL).

Established on June 25, 1997, the Wild began playing in the 2000–01 season. They were founded to fill the gap left by the Minnesota North Stars, who relocated to Dallas in 1993. The Wild made their first playoff appearance in 2003, reaching the Western Conference Finals before falling to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Since then, they have qualified for the playoffs 13 times and won a division title in 2008.

Hynes brings extensive experience from his eight seasons as an NHL head coach, where he accumulated a record of 284-255-63 in 601 regular-season games. Previously, he served as head coach for the Nashville Predators, leading them to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 2020 to 2022, and for the New Jersey Devils from 2015 to 2019.

Before his NHL tenure, Hynes was head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, guiding them to consistent playoff appearances and a top defensive record. He also coached USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, where he won several medals, including gold in 2002 and 2006. As a former forward at Boston University, Hynes helped his team win the 1995 NCAA championship. He was recently inducted into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023.

Minnesota Wild General Manager

As per USA Hockey, Bill Guerin is the president of hockey operations and general manager of the Minnesota Wild. He was promoted to president in July 2023 after guiding the team to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons as GM. Guerin is also serving as general manager for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.
