The Minnesota Wild are an NHL team based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, competing in the Central Division of the Western Conference. They play their home games at the Xcel Energy Center, owned by Craig Leipold. The Wild are affiliated with the Iowa Wild in the AHL and the Iowa Heartlanders in the ECHL. The team were established on June 25, 1997, following the relocation of the Minnesota North Stars to Dallas in 1993.

The Wild began NHL play in the 2000–01 season and made their first Stanley Cup playoff appearance in 2003, advancing to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The team has qualified for the playoffs 13 times and won their first division championship in 2008.
