Ross Colton, born on September 11, 1996, in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey, is an American professional ice hockey player, serving as a center for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL as of 2025. Colton's journey began at Princeton Day School before transferring to Taft School in Connecticut. His junior career included a record-setting stint with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the USHL, which earned him selection by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

After two strong seasons with the University of Vermont Catamounts, Colton signed with the Lightning. He won the Stanley Cup, scoring a goal in Game 5 of the 2021 Finals. In 2023, he joined the Avalanche, where he continues to play as of 2025.

Ross Colton's parents are Rob and Kelly Colton. Rob was an accomplished athlete, excelling in baseball and soccer at Steinert High School in New Jersey. Kelly Colton, Ross’ mother, is his "biggest fan." She also played basketball in HIgh School as per The New York Times. Despite being unable to attend the game due to illness, she celebrated from home, wearing her son's jersey.

Ross Colton has an elder brother named Robert Colton. They played hockey in high school together, as per the NY Times. The brothers shared an apartment in Jersey Shore and an apartment on the Jersey Shore.

"Ross is the most competitive person I have ever known," Robert told NHL's official website.

In an Interview with The Hockey News, Robert said that the brothers are very close and love to go fishing together. He said,

Ross and I love to fish, play golf, go to concerts things like that. We have family and friends who have houses on the Shore, so we liked going there and heading to the beach.
