Samuel Hunter Bennett is a forward for the Florida Panthers in the NHL, as of 2025. He played minor hockey for the York-Simcoe Express and the Toronto Marlboros before being drafted ninth overall by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. Over three seasons with the Frontenacs, he recorded 155 points in 128 games and earned OHL Second Team All-Rookie honors in his first season.

In 2014, Bennett was selected fourth overall by the Calgary Flames in the NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2015 against the Winnipeg Jets, recording his first career point on his first shift. Bennett scored his first NHL regular-season goal and playoff goal against the Vancouver Canucks. At 19 years and six months old, he became the youngest player in Flames history to score a hat trick and the third-youngest in NHL history to score four goals in a single game.

The trade happened at the NHL trade deadline in April 2021. Calgary sent Sam Bennett and a 2022 sixth-round pick to Florida. In return, the Flames received Emil Heineman (a Swedish prospect) and a 2022 second-round pick.

Bennett quickly became Florida’s second-line center. He played mostly with Jonathan Huberdeau and Anthony Duclair. He scored 5 goals and 13 points in his first 9 games with the Panthers. His ice time increased from about 13 minutes per game in Calgary to over 18 minutes per game in Florida. He also got more power-play and penalty-kill time.

In Calgary, Bennett was mostly used in a bottom-six role and was moved between many different lines. His most common linemates in later years were Mark Jankowski, Derek Ryan, and Milan Lucic. He requested a trade from Calgary before the deal.

Sam Bennett's previous team before being traded to the Florida Panthers was the Calgary Flames. He played with the Flames from the start of his NHL career in 2014 until the trade in April 2021, as per his official NHL profile.

The Calgary Flames selected Sam Bennett with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. After signing a three-year entry-level contract, he injured his shoulder during training camp and required surgery, sidelining him for five months. He returned to Kingston on February 21, 2015, and scored 24 points in 11 games.

Bennett made his NHL debut on April 12, 2015, and scored his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks. On January 13, 2016, he scored four goals in a game against the Florida Panthers, becoming the youngest player in Flames history to achieve a hat trick. Bennett played seven seasons with the Flames, totaling 140 points in 402 games.
