Alanna Smith is a professional basketball player for the Minnesota Lynx who plays as a power forward in the WNBA. At 6 foot 3 inches tall Smith began her basketball journey at Wesley College in Melbourne. In 2015, she shifted to the United States of America to further her basketball career, joining the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team. During her senior year in 2019, she earned recognition as the Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player and was named to the All-Defensive Team. In her college career, she became one of the top defensive players in the 2019 draft class.

Smith was picked by the Phoenix Mercury as 8th overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft. That same year, she played for the South Korean team Incheon Shinhan Bank S-Birds during the WNBA off-season. After one season in South Korea, Smith returned to Australia to join the Adelaide Lightning in the NBL, playing in her home country. In 2024 she won the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics and made it a place in ALL-STAR FIVE of Paris Olympics 2024 Women's Basketball team. She currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx, where she has posted averages of 11.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game as of August 28, 2024.
