The Atlanta Dream drafted Te-Hina Paopao in the second round of the 2025 WNBA draft. Before the draft, she played as a guard for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Te-Hina Paopao began her high school basketball career at La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego, California. She had two torn ACL injuries during her freshman and sophomore years, but had a breakthrough in her senior year. In that final season, Paopao averaged 22.7 points, 8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, leading her team to a remarkable 32-1 record and securing the Southern California Open Division regional title.

Te-Hina Paopao played for four years at the University of Oregon for the Oregon Ducks and then transferred to the University of South Carolina to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks. During her freshman season at Oregon, she started all 19 games, averaging 10.2 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 43.3% from the field and 46.2% from three-point range. In her sophomore year, she scored 13.6 points per game while maintaining solid averages of 3.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. Her junior season saw her average 13.1 points, 3.3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, with notable shooting efficiency at 44.0% from the field and 42.4% from beyond the arc. In her senior season with South Carolina, Paopao averaged 11.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game, while achieving a remarkable 46.1% shooting percentage from the field and leading the nation with a three-point shooting percentage of 46.8%. Over her entire college career, she has played in 114 games, starting 113, with career averages of 12.0 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
