The PGA and European Tour's Barracuda Championship, established in 1999, as the Reno-Tahoe Open, will be held in the 2024 season from July 15 to 21, with a purse of $4 million. The event will take place in Truckee, California, at the Niklaus-designed Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood course; it previously took place at Montrêux Golf & Country Club in Nevada.
The tournament record for below par is held by Vaughn Taylor with 267, under 21, in his second win at the event in 2005, while the record for score is held by Erik Van Rooyen's 2021 win with 50 points. From 1999 to 2023, there were just two players with multiple wins: Taylor in 2004 and 2005 and J. J. Henry in 2012 and 2015.
The inaugural title sponsor of the event was Legends at Sparks Mania in 2008 for two years and by 2014, Barracuda Networks had become the title sponsor. In 2016, the event got the opportunity to give a non-exempt golfer, an entry into the Open Championship, because the Greenbrier Classic was terminated, due to flooding in West Virginia.
Since 2012, the Modified Stableford scoring system has been used for the tournament. A golfer's under-par score in this format results in a higher score than the penalty for an over-par score.
The event became a European Tour co-sanctioned event in 2022, which was then won by Chez Reavie and in the following season, Akshay Bhatia defeated Patrick Rodgers in a playoff to win the 2023 Barracuda Championship.
