Jaylen Watson plays as a cornerback for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs. Before joining the Washington State Cougars, he was a football player at Ventura College and Washington State Cougars. Watson started his career with Ventura in 2017 and moved on to Washington State in 2020. Watson was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He won the title of American Football Conference (AFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Watson intercepted Joe Burrow in the AFC Championship Game and Trevor Lawrence in the AFC Divisional Round during the playoffs. The Chiefs advanced to Super Bowl LVII with Watson's assistance. Watson recorded three tackles in the Chiefs' 38–35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
During his freshman year at Ventura College in California, Watson was selected to the All-State Region III First Team, the All-Northern Conference First Team, and the Junior College Bureau All-American. After recording nine tackles and one pass breakup in his second season, he was awarded Defensive Player of the Game and helped Ventura win the Southern California Football Association Championship. Watson agreed to go to Washington State to play. Watson earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference after recording 13 tackles and quickly established himself as a starter at cornerback for the Washington State Cougars. In his final season, he was repeatedly selected as an honorable mention All-Pac 12.
