Ryan Watts played his college football for the Texas Longhorns and was the cornerback for his team. He initially started his college football career playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes and played for two seasons from 2020-2021. After the conclusion of the 2021 season, Watts transferred to Texas to play for another two seasons (2022-2023) before declaring for the 2024 NFL draft. During his time with the Longhorns, Watts demonstrated his reliability and production playing as a corner. Using his size and agility, Watts made plays in the run game and pass coverages.

Watts was born in Little Elm, Texas and attended Little Elm high school. A former four-star recruit who was ranked as the 29th-best cornerback and 341th overall prospect across the nation. He committed to play his college football for Ohio.

After a slow start to his college football career, Watts had his breakout season playing for the Texas Longhorns in 2022 as he totaled 51 tackles (33 solo and 18 assisted), 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, 3 pass deflections, and an interception. Watts played in 13 games in the 2022 season and was also named an All-Big 12 honorable mention.
