Wolstad was hired by the NFL in the 2003 season as a field judge. In Super Bowl XLVII where the Baltimore Ravens faced the San Francisco 49ers, he worked as a field judge. He was promoted to referee at the start of the 2014 NFL season. He was the alternate referee of Super Bowl LII which was held at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. He was chosen to be the referee of the 2020 Pro Bowl which was held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
