Hailing from Brazil, Joao Fonseca is a professional tennis player. The 18-year-old stunned No. 9 Andrey Rublev by registering a win in three sets (7-6(1), 6-3, 7-6(5)) in one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 Australian Open. In his career, Fonseca has lifted two Challenger titles as of March 2025, including the 2025 Canberra Tennis International. At the Canberra Tennis International, he defeated Ethan Quinn by 6-4 6-4. He won his maiden ATP Challenger title at the 2024 Lexington Challenger, winning against Li Tu by 6-1 6-4.

Fonseca won his first Masters 1000 match at the 2024 Madrid Open, defeating Alex Michelsen in the first round. He was awarded the title of the youngest Challenger winner of last season. His accomplishments also include qualifying for the Next Generation ATP Finals in 2024, the lowest-ranked player to achieve the feat. Coached by Guilherme Teixeira, Fonseca finished as the semi-finalist at the Lyon Challenger and quarterfinalist at the Brest Challenger, losing to Calvin Hemery and Benjamin Bonzi, respectively. One of the biggest accomplishments of the current season includes lifting his maiden single title at the 2025 Argentina Open, where he defeated Francisco Cerundolo by 6-4, 7-6.
