Learner Tien, the American tennis player, caused an upset in the 2025 Australian Open, winning against former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. The American won in five sets with a final score of 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-7(8), 1-6, 7-6 (10-7), playing for almost five hours to advance to his first appearance in the third round of a Grand Slam. The victory helped him break into the top 100 with his maiden top-10 and top-5 win of his career.

By winning three Challenger titles before turning 19, he joined Sam Querrey, Andy Roddick, and Taylor Fritz as the only players to achieve the feat as of Jan 2025. With the win, he secured a spot at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, losing to Joao Fonseca. He sealed a spot in his maiden ATP quarterfinal at the 2024 Winston-Salem Open after registering a win against Thiago Seyboth Wild and Fabian Marozsan. As of Jan 2025, he is yet to win a singles title in his career. Tien won his first ATP Challenger title at the 2024 Cranbrook Tennis Classic, where he defeated Nishesh Basavareddy 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Coached by Eric Diaz and Jay Leavitt, he played collegiate tennis for the University of Southern California.
