Auston Matthews is an American ice hockey center and captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored four goals in his debut and won the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year. Matthews led rookies with 40 goals and 69 points. He had multiple 40+ goal seasons and won the Hart Trophy in 2022 as MVP.

He became the fastest Maple Leafs player to 500 points and the first to score 40 goals in four straight seasons. In 2023, Matthews signed a four-year, $53 million contract. He scored his 300th goal and had a hat trick in the 2023-24 opener. In 2024, Matthews became the 26th Maple Leafs captain and the first U.S.-born captain. He had 69 goals in 2024 and joined nine players with multiple 60-goal seasons.
