Jan Rutta is a Czech professional ice hockey defenseman playing for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL). Known for his exceptional defensive skills on the ice, Rutta has played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL.

He started his journey in his homeland where he honed his skills, playing with Piráti Chomutov during the 2012–13 season. Rutta showcased his impressive defensive skills during his tenure with Chomutov. In 2017, his professional journey took a significant turn, joining the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL. He did well in the training camp of the Blackhawks, and earned a spot in the opening night roster for the 2017-18 season.
