Luke Hughes is a defenseman who plays for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL). He had an impressive college career at University of Michigan as he led all NCAA defensemen in scoring during both his seasons. In the 2021-22 season, he was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and the AHCA West Second Team All-American. In the 2022-23 season, he was a finalist for both the Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, as per reports.

Hughes signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils on April 8, 2023, and made his NHL debut on April 11 against the Buffalo Sabres. He scored his first NHL goal and added an assist in his second game, leading to an overtime victory over the Washington Capitals. In the 2023-24 season, he set a franchise record for points by a rookie defenseman, amassing nine goals and 47 points over 82 games. The Devils player was named a finalist for the 2024 Calder Memorial Trophy and was an unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team, according to reports.
