The New Jersey Devils began as the Kansas City Scouts in 1972, then became the Colorado Rockies in 1976. Due to instability, the team was sold to Arthur Imperatore, who planned a move to New Jersey. Because of arena delays, the team remained in Denver before being sold again and eventually relocated to New Jersey.
Since moving to New Jersey, the Devils have won 3 Stanley Cups, 5 Conference Championships, and 9 Division Championships. They have played at the Prudential Center in Newark since 2007. They remain the only major league team to represent New Jersey exclusively.
